Bachelor of Arts Communications


Teaches: Contemporary and Hip Hop classes

                                  

Nickely has been teaching at BDC Dance Studios since 2012. Prior to this she was based in the UK where she

opened Oxford Contemporary Dance School in 1994 and worked for various performing arts colleges and

schools as a dance teacher and choreographer.

                                  

In 1995 She co-founded Biserk Dance Company with Sarah Bishop. The company is inspired by a continuing

investigation into movement, choreography and story-telling. The works are created alongside artistic

collaborators including actors, composers, digital artists and designers. 

Nickely created 15 full-length works for Biserk, each touring extensively to small-scale theatres throughout the UK and was the winner of the Southern Arts & Thamesdown Dance Choreographic Award in 1996.

BDC Dance Studios’ teachers are graduates of Australian and International courses ranging from certificate levels to degrees and post graduate diplomas. Many are specialists in their particular styles with a wealth of experience in teaching, performing, choreographing and directing.

Dee is a warm, vibrant and child-centred professional with over 30 years experience. For over a decade

she has been sharing her love of the arts in all its forms with the BDC community.

Dee’s classes take a holistic approach following the “Integrated Arts” model which is underpinned by the

philosophy that in the early years of childhood, all the creative arts should be experienced together.

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Secondary Education


Cara has been a Dance Educator and Performing Arts teacher in a variety of schools and educational contexts for over 15 years. She has been an integral contributor to the VCE Dance curriculum through her work on the prescribed work selection panels and assessment teams. She has also lectured in Dance Education at Deakin University mentoring the next generation of teachers. A passion for teaching VCE Dance has led to the development of her own business Intelligent Dance private providing the subject to those who cannot access it in their own school.


Her philosophy of education is that dance is for everyone, learning to choreograph is an empowering, artistic process that employs both cognitive and kinaesthetic skills, requiring perseverance and commitment to the task. These important qualities can transition from

dance studio to a variety of career pathways.


In schools Cara has led celebrated productions of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Rock n Roll High School, Friends, Bye Bye Birdie and Return to the Forbidden Planet, 12 Angry Men, White Paper Flowers, A Midsummer Nights Dream, and many original shows co-devised with her students. Cara has also enjoyed planning and facilitating performance tours of the USA and Adelaide Festival with senior students.


As a performer, Cara's highlight is performing as a dancer with Cyndi Lauper in her At Last Tour in Melbourne and Sydney. She has enjoyed working on many original productions as either, performer or choreographer, such as Green Room Award nominated Trash; Sister's Grimm's Little Mercy and Lee Gambin's original musical Oh The Horror.


Cara is excited to join the team at BDC Dance Studios in 2017.

Bachelor of Musical Theatre - UBAA


Teaches: Jazz and Contemporary classes


Amy completed her Bachelor of Arts, Music Theatre at The Arts Academy, University of Ballarat, in 2010.

Her Academy performance credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (Gloria & Millie understudy), Urinetown

(Senator Fipp), The Life (Mary), Whistles & Echoes, Un4scene, as well as her self-devised cabaret, Bogan

Burlesque. While at University, Amy also had the opportunity to work along side such industry

professionals as Tom Healey (former Artistic Associate of Playbox Theatre), Tom Hodgson (Australian

Resident Choreographer of Billy Elliot) & David Wynen (Billy Elliot Sydney 2008) in various assistant

choreographic roles. In 2013 Amy completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Arts and Cultural Management at the University of Melbourne, and is currently the Marketing Coordinator for Feld Entertainment (Australia) Pty Ltd., promoting tours such as Disney Live!, Disney On Ice & Monster Jam throughout Australia & New Zealand. She has been dancing for over 20 years in numerous styles of dance, completing up to the Intermediate level of the RAD syllabus and singing since age 6, completing up to Grade 7 of the AMEB syllabus. She is now sharing her passion for performing, having taught in several schools for more than nine years within the Ballarat & Melbourne regions.

Adelaide Williams       Teacher

Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Dance and Drama) - Deakin University


Teaches Ballet, Contemporary and Preschool classes


Adelaide began dancing from her earliest years and was featured soloist with the Camberwell District Ballet. She was a Victorian under 12 gold medallist (Cecchetti) and attended the VCA Secondary College first as a dancer then as a singer, achieving two “Top Acts” in VCE. From the age of 12 she sang and danced with her parents’ trios The Elastic Band (children’s shows) and Trio Grande (concerts and cabaret).


While at University she ran her own private school of dance, meanwhile singing in small jazz groups

and performing in dance projects. She then undertook choreographic work and began to teach for

BDC before she left for three years’ work as a Dancer at the Moulin Rouge in Paris.


Upon her return from Paris she commenced a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Applied Learning) at    

Deakin in Geelong as well as working on further singing projects.


From her earliest years Adelaide has expressed herself through song and dance and, and her approach is one that encourages joyful and natural expression. Allied to this however, is her firm belief that expression is based in a sound technique. This in turn, sets up good deportment healthy movement and adaptability to various dance styles.

Bachelor of Music Theatre - UBAA

                                   

Teaches: Jazz, Stretch & Strengthen and Troupe classes


Starting ballet training aged of two, Brittany’s passion for performing arts has taken off and she has just

graduated with a Bachelor of Music Theatre from UBAA having recently performed her graduating showcase at

the Melbourne Theatre Company.  Brittany has attained distinctions in AMEB singing exams up to Grade 8 as

well as Speech and Drama where she achieved the highest score in the region for her final exam from the

Trinity College of London.  Brittany is also studying her Diploma of Education in Speech and Drama, which will

allow her to further develop her love of performance and working with students.  Brittany has been teaching in    

Ballarat for many years & has recently moved to Melbourne to continue her passion of Music Theatre.

Natalie has been sharing her love of dance with BDC students since 2010. Prior to this she has been performing and teaching in both Brisbane and Perth before relocating to Melbourne to pursue a freelance performance career whilst furthering her love of teaching. In 2012 she took on the role of Studio Manager and 2015 saw her take the reigns of BDC Dance Studios as Principal.


Natalie’s teaching philosophy is to balance discipline and technique with the sheer enjoyment of dance. She is a firm believer that whilst ballet is an exact and demanding art, there must be a love of dance at the core of all training.

    Dominic Watt         Assistant Teacher

Currently studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at Monash University.


Teaches: Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet


Olivia has always had a passion for the performing arts, beginning dance classes at age 7. Olivia's love for dancing truly blossomed when she starting attending classes at BDC Dance Studios in 2010. Whilst at BDC Olivia has been an enthusiastic and cheerful member of jazz, contemporary, ballet, hip hop, tap and musical theatre classes. She completed VCE Dance Units 3/4 at BDC Dance Studios in 2012 and started dance teacher training with us in 2015. Her students absolutely adore her! 


Olivia hopes to spread her love of dancing and the joy that it brings to all that she teaches. She aims to create a welcoming environment by encouraging all students to be respectful and supportive of one another. Olivia believes that dance classes can be used to teach students beneficial life skills as well as dance and performance technique. 


Olivia aspires eventually to combine her dance teaching and occupational therapy skills to develop a dance-based occupational therapy program.

Currently studying Associate Degree in Education (Primary) - Deakin University


Dominic started dancing at BDC at the age of 4 and has grown up with the studio as a second home.

He studied dance at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School for two years before returning to BDC where he continued to hone his dance skills along with completing VCE dance.


Dominic commenced his teacher training at BDC in late 2015 and has shown a particular flair for Drama and Musical theatre classes where he has been an invaluable support for Dee.


In 2016 he taught VET Dance at Drouin Secondary School and is heading into teaching the same course this year at Swinburne.


No stranger to the stage, in 2016 Dominic became a committee member of the local theatre company Hartwell Players for whom he has been performing with since 2003.

    Sarah McInness     Teacher

Teaches: Tap classes


Sarah is a graduate of Left Leg Studio’s Diploma of Musical Theatre program, appearing as Paulette in their production of Legally Blonde The Musical and taking on a teaching role to the Pre-Professionals as the Assistant Musical Director. In her time at Melbourne University, she performed, choreographed, wrote and directed several shows, garnering recognition for her work as a choreographer (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee- WON, The Drowsy Chaperone- NOMINATED) In 2015, Sarah appeared as the glittery, tap dancing Columbia in the Astor Theatre’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show Shadowcast as well as tap dancing in the circus cabaret act Don’t Feed The Animals. In 2016, Sarah toured internationally with the Australian Shakespeare Company’s Much Ado About Nothing (Melbourne, Regional and Prague seasons) and lived out a dream of producing her own variety show at The Butterfly Club.


As a Physiotherapy student, Sarah hopes to use her understanding of the human body to support growing bodies and help them reach their potential as dancers and as individuals. She also strongly believes the skills learnt in dance class set children up with a strong foundation for life. They learn to take care of their bodies, to work as a team and to work hard in order to achieve something they are proud of.  Most importantly, they are given the opportunity to improve in a way that is tangible and celebrated and shared.

    Sophie Loughran    Teacher

Bachelor of Arts, a Masters of Communications

Certificate II in Dance Performance. 


Teaches: Jazz, Contemporary and Troupe.


Sophie is a 2015 NIDA Musical Theatre graduate. In 2016 Sophie was part of the Australian National Tour of Scooby Doo Live! Level Up with Life Like Touring as well as the Cast Recording of the new Australian musical The White Mouse. She has also worked as Assistant Director and Choreographer on Mentone Grammar's production of Legally Blonde the Musical. 


An alumni of BDC, Sophie has been teaching jazz, tap and contemporary at BDC Dance Studios since 2010.

She continues to be a positive influence towards all her students and brings smiles to every class to inspire them to be the best they can be.

    Cate McInnes         Assistant Teacher

Currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Deakin University.


Amongst her diverse credits, Catherine has performed with Planetshakers Conference at Hisense Arena as well as National Gallery of Victoria for the David Hockey, Viktor&Rolf, and Andy Warhol Exhibitions.


With over 16 years of experience from Crazy Feet Dance Studio and BDC Dance Studios, training in both Cecchetti and Royal Academy of Dance ballet, she has continues her dance education at LeftLeg Studios part-time course, allowing her to receive training from a selection of the finest industry professionals in Melbourne.


Catherine has also excelled within VCE and VET Dance courses, awarding her a Certificate 2 and partial completion of Certificate 3 in Dance as well as many awards from Victorian Performing Arts Challenge, ComDance as well as VCE and VET Dance Competitions.

    Amy Cubit             Teacher

Currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Economics) at The University of Melbourne

 

Amy’s love of dance started at a very young age and she has spent her entire life loving classes at BDC.


With participation in all her high school musicals, completion of VCE Dance, Starbound summer musical theatre programs, several victorian dance competitions and eisteddfods and time with Melbourne Tap, she holds her endless hours spent at the studio over the years most dear. Her proudest dance achievement so far was being chosen to perform her VCE solo at the VCAA Top Class Season of Excellence in 2014.


Having a long history of helping younger students around her, Amy has naturally progressed into the role of teacher through her training at BDC. She thrives both in helping young students to develop foundation skills and inspiring teenagers to exceed their own expectations of their abilities.
